Keep Brendan Connolly in your holiday thoughts

Brutal ending to the evening for Alaska Aces winger Brendan Connolly.

As he unloaded a shot off the rush early in the third period of a 5-3 win over Utah at Sullivan Arena, he took a two-hander directly to the mouth from Utah's Kris Hogg.

Connolly went crashing into the end boards. Hogg, who got four minutes for high-sticking, seemed genuinely concerned. He crouched over Connolly and immediately signaled to the benches that Connolly needed help.

Connolly skated off under his own power, leaving, in the words of Utah broadcaster Adrian Denny, "a trail of O negative.''

Saw Connolly in the hallway outside the Aces' dressing room after. He's a mess. He was bleeding from the mouth, holding a paper cup to catch the blood. His speech was difficult to understand as you might imagine it would be after taking a stick to the face.

He's likely got some dental surgery coming soon. Hopefully, nothing worse than that.

Keep a good thought for Connolly over these holidays, because they're likely to be rough for him.
