Lundgren, Garrigus ski to GS titles at Alyeska

December 22, 2013

The Lundgren and Ingrim sisters went on a tear Sunday at Alyeska and dominated the results in the Coca-Cola Holiday Classic giant slalom.

Sarah Lundgren, a U-21 skier, was fastest on both courses and fastest overall with a two-run time of 1:51.71.

But second overall and close behind was younger sister Amanda Lundgren, a U-16 racer who turned in a 1:53.98.

Third overall was Hannah Ingrim, a U-21 skier who clocked 1:56.42. Her sister, April Ingrim, a first-year U-16 skier, was fifth with a 1:57.95.

Breaking up the sister acts by finishing fourth was Manya Montanelli, who had two strong runs for a 1:57.29 total.

The men engaged in spirited racing, too. Adam Garrigus and Garrett Mashburn, both U-16 racers, were first and second overall.

Garrigus won the first run, and even though Mashburn had the fastest second run of the day, he didn't quite catch Garrigus, who won by a scant .15 seconds, 1:48.67 to 1:48.82. Third overall was Barren Cabana in 1:49.97.

Some of the younger men showed particular promise. First-year U-14 racer Hunter Eid was sixth overall with a 1:55.15, and second-year U-14 skier Jack Stahla was close behind. First-year U-12 skier Jonah Folds had a fine 1:03.86 first run, but went out on his second run.

Racing continues Monday with another giant slalom and Saturday with a slalom and parallel slalom. The series concludes with a super-G on Jan. 5.
