Zirkle wins Solstice 100 for second straight year

FAIRBANKS -- The sled dog season is under way.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (http://is.gd/DBDigJ) Aliy Zirkle won last weekend's running of the Solstice 100 race, put on by the Two Rivers Dog Mushers Association.

Zirkle finished the course in eight hours, 41 minutes and 54 seconds to claim her second straight title. Matt Hall was second, five minutes back, and defending Yukon Quest champion Allen Moore came in third. One musher scratched from the field of 23 teams.

Lance Mackey finished two minutes ahead of Jessica Hendricks to win the Solstice 50 race. Nineteen teams entered that race.
