An Anchor Point man was arrested Thursday night after he allegedly set fire to a trailer and hid in the woods with firearms while firefighters put out the blaze, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Troopers and the Anchor Point Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Chakok Road at about 9 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived on the scene, a “live-in style travel trailer” was fully engulfed in flames, officials said.

“It’s totally destroyed,” Dave Matthews, an Anchor Point firefighter, said Saturday.

Troopers said they could not find anyone on the property, and Trevor Cole, the landowner, couldn’t be reached.

After the fire was extinguished, troopers spotted Cole, 33, walking away from the scene on North Fork Road. He had a rifle and a concealed handgun, according to a trooper report. Troopers also found less than an ounce of marijuana on Cole, said Beth Ipsen, troopers spokeswoman.

After having a “falling-out” with the trailer’s owner, troopers believe, Cole set it ablaze and fled. The owner had previously given permission for the trailer to be parked on his property, authorities said.

According to Ipsen, troopers followed Cole’s track to a tree nearby where “he had been apparently lying down.” He then allegedly hid in the woods until the fire department left the scene.

Cole was charged with second-degree arson, a felony, and two misconduct charges involving weapons and controlled substances, both misdemeanors. He was taken to the Homer jail.
