A woman was found dead in a downtown Anchorage hotel Monday morning, apparently from an overdose, police said.

At 11:52 a.m., a man called police to report that a woman he had been staying with in a room at the Guesthouse Inn & Suites was unresponsive, Jennifer Castro, Anchorage police spokeswoman, said in an email. The hotel is located at 321 E. 5th Avenue.

Paramedics arrived at the hotel at 11:58 a.m. and pronounced the woman dead, Castro said.

An autopsy is being conducted to confirm the cause of death, as well as toxicology tests, Castro said.

The woman's identity is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.
