John Hendrickson took down Rendell Burghart to claim a men’s singles title in the Grand Prix tennis tournament last week at The Alaska Club North, where the state’s top players competed in a four-day, invitation-only event.
The finalists traded spectacular shots in Hendrickson’s 7-6(8), 6-2 victory. Hendrickson reached the final with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Jake Tracy in the semifinals, and Burghart won the other semifinal 6-1, 6-1 over Reed Lekander.
Megha Panuganti won the women’s singles title with a finals victory over Adrienne Fox in a round-robin event that included Katrina Brown and Ilysia Parker.
Burghart teamed with Colin Gillam for a men’s doubles title, taking out Tracy and Lekander 6-2, 6-2.
The women’s doubles title went to Panuganti and Mallory Cox, who defeated Fox and Brown 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 in the final.
Brad Luczkow and Katrina Brown teamed for a mixed-doubles title, toppling Burghard and Fox in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 10-6.
