Bean's Cafe is accepting entries to its annual recipe contest until Jan. 20.

The Anchorage nonprofit, which offers hot meals to the city's homeless and hungry population, is hosting its yearly fundraiser The Empty Bowl Project. The event features a bean soup recipe contest.

All entries must include dry beans, and both professional chefs and home cooks can enter.

Forms can be found at, or entrants can call 433-8603 for more information.

The 20th annual Empty Bowl Project will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 8 at the Egan Center . The event is hosted in conjunction with the Anchorage Clay Arts Guild.

Two winning recipes will be served at the event.

The Empty Bowl Project raised about $100,000 for Bean's Cafe last year, making it Bean's second-biggest fundraiser after Pick. Click. Give.
