A man was hit over the head with a shovel and then grazed by a bullet during a fight in Chugiak Monday afternoon, police said.

About 4 p.m., a call to Anchorage police reported a disturbance at the 21000 block of the Old Glenn Highway, with shots fired near the entrance of a home, police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said.

Police found that two men were involved in a verbal argument, and one of them had brandished a firearm, Castro said.

In the scuffle that followed, a woman whacked one of the men over the head with a shovel, Castro said. Then the gun went off multiple times, and a bullet grazed that same man in the shoulder, Castro said.

He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Two suspects were taken into custody, and an investigation into the incident is continuing, Castro said. She said no one has been charged.

No names were immediately released in connection to the incident.
