Moore, Zirkle headline Cooper Basin field

Allen Moore and Aliy Zirkle lead a strong field in the Copper Basin 300, which begins Saturday morning in Glennallen.

Moore and Zirkle, a married couple who operated SP Kennels in Two Rivers, will be among 45 teams that take off from the American Legion Hall beginning at 10 a.m. Moore is the Copper Basin defending champion and Zirkle has been the runnerup in the last two Iditarods.

Teams will travel nearly 300 miles. Checkpoints include the Red Eagle Lodge is Chistochina, the Meiers Lake Resort, Sourdough, Lake Louise Lodge and the Tolsana Resort. The race ends in Glennallen.
