Prep hockey: Eagle River, South earn victories

Eagle River 9, East 2

Kyle Johnson bagged a hat trick and added one assist Tuesday night at Ben Boeke Arena, and three other Eagle River skaters delivered two goals each to earn the Wolves a 9-2 Cook Inlet Conference boys hockey victory over East.

Blake Rinkey scored two goals for Eagle River, as did Jesse Johnson and Kory Cain. Connor Canterbury furnished three assists, and Thomas Slater and Blake Halfpenny each contributed two helpers. Justin Lopez stopped 28 shots for Eagle River.

Justin Beverlin had one goal and one assist for East, which also received a goal from Tarini Tosi.


South 9, Chugiak 1

Cayden Cahill delivered a hat trick and two assists to earn South a 9-1 boys hockey victory over Chugiak at the McDonald Center in Eagle River on Tuesday night.

Croix Evingson, Ben Trujillo and Jared Cruz each added one goal and one assist for the Wolverines, who received 18 saves from Kevin Lake.

Taylor Garner scored Chugiak’s goal.
