Letter: Pipeline on the right track

January 16, 2014

Congratulations to Gov. Sean Parnell and Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Joe Balash for finding a way forward on the natural gas pipeline, and a tip o’ the cap to TransCanada for being a responsible business partner.

The past arrangements of the Alaska Pipeline Gasline Inducement Act were ineffective, both in design and by virtue of changing market forces. Further, because of the potential for treble damages, it also blocked any substantial way forward. By resolving this dilemma with sound leadership, statesmanship and a good partnering attitude, Gov. Parnell, Commissioner Joe Balash and TransCanada have cleared a path for future efforts.
