Letter: No more for church schools

January 20, 2014

Re: Jess T. Ellis’s “In Alaska education, one size does not fit all” (Compass, Jan. 18):

Although I completely agree that having choices of Senate Joint Resolution 9 isn’t just another way for some to subsidize church schools such as ABT, Abbott Loop and the Catholic schools, in my opinion, we already give these institutions plenty of dough through lack of taxation. Let’s not find another channel through which state funds can find their way into the coffers of our already over-subsidized religious institutions. If you want your child to receive his/her education at Jerry Prevo’s school, go, by all means, but don’t ask the state to pay for it.
