Maranello, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Ferrari is naming its 2014 Formula One car the F14 T, based on results from an online vote by the fans.
The Italian team said in a release that it received a total of 1,123,741 votes from 208 countries on its website during a nine-day period. The F14 T picked up the most votes with 369,711 (32.9 percent), but the F166 Turbo came in a close second at 350,607 (31.2 percent). Others receiving votes were: F14 Scuderia (211,263), F14 Maranello (138,220) and F616 (53,940).
"It's nice to know the name of the car has been chosen by our fans," Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali said. "The amazing number of votes shows just how popular Ferrari has always been and this will be, as always, a further impetus for us to do well this year."
Ferrari is scheduled to unveil its new F1 car online on Saturday. McLaren became the first team to showcase its car, the MP4-29, for this season on Friday. Ferrari's driver lineup this year includes Fernando Alonso, the 2005 and '06 F1 world champion, and Kimi Raikkonen, the 2007 titleholder.
