Nikolaevsk, Nenana dominate Warrior Rumble

Nikolaevsk and Nenana each got wins from their boys and girls teams Friday at the Warrior Rumble in Nikolaevsk.

In boys play, the host Warriors moved to 2-0 in the three-day round-robin tournament by clubbing Birchwood Christian 60-44. Jaruby Nelson poured in 28 points for Nikolaevsk, and Tyler Kieffer tossed in 21 for Birchwood Christian.

The Nikolaevsk girls topped Birchwood Christian 52-18 behind Sophia Kalugin's 20 points to move to 1-1 in tournament play. Bryce Vickers led Birchwood with 13 points.

Both Nenana teams are 2-0. The boys buried Kalskag 67-30, landing 12 players in the scoring column, a group led by James Olin-Martin, who scored 14. The girls edged Skyview 43-40 in a game that produced a scoring duel between Nenana's Edna Standifer (23 points) and Skyview's Samantha Reynolds (20).

In Thursday's late games, the Nikolaesvk boys downed Kalskag 56-35, and the Skyview girls slipped past Nikolaevsk 38-32.
