UAF rides Cahill's first shutout to 3-0 win over Bemidji

UAF junior Sean Cahill, making just his fifth start this season and just the 10th of his career, stopped 27 shots tonight to rack his first shutout and carry the Nanooks to a 3-0 WCHA win over visiting Bemidji State (Minn.).

With Lake Superior and Michigan Tech both winning -- Lake Soo won 5-3 at Bowling Green and Tech beat visiting and league-leading Ferris State 3-2 -- the Nanooks (10-11-4, 7-10-2 WCHA) remain locked in a three-way tie with those clubs for seventh place. But they are just one point behind sixth-place Northern Michigan (which beat UAA 3-1 at Sullivan Arena tonight), two points behind fifth-place Bemidji and three points behind fourth-place UAA.

The Nanooks got a first-period short-handed goal from Cody Kunyk -- his team-leading 13th goal -- and a third-period goal from Jared Larson before Marcus Basara's empty-net goal cemented the win.
