Friday's girls hoops: Chugiak nips Dimond; West, East both win

Chugiak 68, Dimond 63

A huge game from Brandy Bookout and a furious comeback led Chugiak to a 68-63 upset of Dimond in a Friday night Cook Inlet Conference girls basketball game at Dimond.

Bookout poured in 33 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and tallied six steals to power the Mustangs, who trailed by 13 points after the first quarter.

Bookout, hit four of nine shots from 3-point range, helped Chugiak outscore the Lynx 36-18 in the second and third quarters to take a 46-41 lead into the fourth quarter.

Ashlynn Burgess collected 12 rebounds to help the Wolverines outrebound Dimond 51-48. Nicole Pinckney chipped in 10 points.

Dimond put up a ton of shots — 77 — and missed 54 of them. South hit 41 percent of its 59 shots.

Rohyn Huss led the Lynx with 20 points and seven rebounds. Tara Thompson chipped in 18 points and Nikki Forney added 10.

 

West 68, South 58

Chanel Bookert pumped in 29, hitting 12 of 13 free throws and sinking three 3-pointers, to lift West to a 68-58 CIC road win Friday at South.

Bookert’s effort also included 10 steals.

CeCe Cockerham racked up 13 points and 13 rebounds and Marshala Eady added eight points and nine rebounds for the undefeated Eagles.

For South, Sadie Hodgson scored team-high 15 points and Hailee Hodgson hit all three of her 3-point attempts en route to 11 points.

 

East 59, Service 30

The East girls rode a balanced scoring attack that produced four players with nine or more points Friday in a 59-30 CIC romp over visiting Service.

Taria Page scored 13 points, Tennae Voliva 11, Lorna Suaava 10 and Dajah Motuga nine for the T-birds.

Tatiyanna Venable’s 13 points topped Service.
