Letter: Voucher system fair for all

February 2, 2014

Education is education. Because we have a flawed public education system some people have chosen private schools. Why should one group of students have the advantage of tax money for their education while another group that chooses the private education route does not? I believe the voucher system is fair for all.

What has not been discussed is the millions and millions of dollars private schools have saved Alaska and the cities of Alaska. Just imagine the tremendous increase in costs if the private students switched to public schools. Some will argue that the tax-exempt status of these private schools offsets this cost. Those tax-exempt dollars pale in comparison to the $15,000 cost per student of public schools.
