Former Aces goaltender Ortio headed to NHL

Joni Ortio, the goaltender who at season's start looked wildly out of place in the ECHL -- in four games for the Alaska Aces, he went 3-1-0 with a 1.01 goals-against average, .944 save percentage and two shutouts -- is headed to the NHL.

The Calgary Flames summoned Ortio today.

He's been killin' it in the AHL for the Abbotsford Heat (Calgary and Abbotsford are Alaska's affiliates), going 19-5-0 with a 2.08 goals-against average, .930 save percentage and two shutouts.

Calgary plays Tuesday night at Montreal, so that's the first chance for Ortio, a 22-year-old from Finland, to make his NHL debut.
