GNAC honors Anders, Ashcroft

Anchorage Daily NewsFebruary 3, 2014

The Great Northwest Athletic Conference on Monday honored UAA track and field athletes Karolin Anders and Jamie Ashcroft for their performances over the weekend at the Ed Jacoby Invitational & Multi in Nampa, Idaho.

Anders, a sophomore, was named the conference’s women’s field athlete of the week after delivering 3,774 in the pentathlon. Her score is the second-highest in GNAC history and third among Division II athletes on the national list this season.

Her mark is also a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Division II indoor national meet.

Anders’ high jump of 5 feet, 7.75 inches, marked a UAA indoor record — that tied her school outdoor record.

Ashcroft, a freshman, shared the women’s track athlete of the week honor with Seattle Pacific’s Kayla Fricker. Ashcroft ran a GNAC-record 24.89 seconds in the 200 meters and covered the 60 meters in 7.72 seconds.

Both of Ashcroft’s marks are provisional national qualifiers.
