UAF skier leads Americans at World Juniors

UAF nordic skier Nicole Bathe finished 26th Sunday in the women’s 5-kilometer classical race at the World Junior Championships in Val Di Fiemme, Italy, and Monday skied the lead-off leg on the American team that finished 12 of 14 teams in the freestyle relay.

Bathe, 18, covered Sunday’s 5-K in 15 minutes, 22.0 seconds, and Marion Woods of Anchorage, 18, was second among Americans and 34th overall in 15:31.1. Woods on Monday furnished the Americans with the fastest relay leg, covering her 3.3-kilomter tour in 10:18.8.

In Monday’s men’s 4x5-K freestyle relay, Thomas O’Harra of Anchorage, 17, skied the third leg in 14:29.9 and helped the Americans finish 12th out of 18 teams.
