Berther leads UAA alpine skiers in Colorado

Junior Vanessa Berther’s 14th-place finish among women in the giant slalom led UAA skiers Monday in the second of two alpine qualifiers in the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association.

Berther covered two runs in Winter Park, Colo., in 2 minutes, 8.69 seconds. Her second-run time of 1:02.19 was the second-fastest in the field.

Among UAA men, freshman Hughston Norton led the way with a 23rd-place finish in 2:08.99.

Other UAA women’s finishers were Victoria McVicker (23rd in 2:15.88) and Miranda Sheely (26th in 2:22.07).

UAA’s other finisher in the men’s race was James Schindler (24th in 2:10.17).
