A 71-year-old Big Lake man was arrested Sunday on felony charges of sexually abusing a minor, Palmer police said.

Benjamin L. Hammond, a janitor at Willow Elementary School, was taken to Mat-Su Pretrial facility, where he was being held without bail, according to a statement from Palmer Police Department. He is charged with first- and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

An affidavit indicated that the alleged victims were family members and not related to Hammond's employment at the school. The incidents occurred from about 15 to 25 years ago, according to the affidavit.
