Civic Orchestra performs Friday

Posted by Mike Dunham on February 5, 2014

The Anchorage Civic Orchestra will present a concert featuring the winners of their High School Concerto Competition at 7:30 p.m. on Friday in Sydney Laurence Theatre.
The program includes Mozart's "Serenata Notturna" and his Wind Serenade in C Minor, the latter presented as a chamber piece without conductor, and Haydn's Symphony No. 102.
The high school artists are Allison Stapleford, who will perform Weber's Concertino in E-flat for Clarinet and Orchestra, and percussionist Naomi Endres in a Concerto for Six Timpani and Orchestra by Georg Druscketzky, whom I've never heard of either. The rarely-heard thump-fest is supposed to have been written in the 1790s.
