Penker, Larkin pace UAA gymnasts

Anchorage Daily NewsFebruary 7, 2014

Simone Penker placed second in two events and Nicole Larkin performed well in place of an injured teammate Friday for the UAA gymnastics team in a dual meet against Illinois State in Normal, Ill.

Penker, a sophomore from Austria, was the runnerup in vault (9.65) and balance beam (9.7).

Larkin, a freshman from Kennewick, Wash., competed in the all-around after regular all-arounder Morgan Cook was injured in warmups and was limited to one event, balance beam, where she placed third (9.675).

Larkin scored 37.575 points and grabbed second place in floor exercise with 9.7 points. Teammate Kallie Randolph was fourth in floor with a 9.6.

Stefany Bryan, another sophomore, led UAA in the all-around with 37.85 points and third place in uneven parallel bars (9.75).

Illinois State won the meet, 191.025 to 188.925. UAA competes again Sunday in a tri-meet at Southeast Missouri.
