Raleigh, NC (SportsNetwork.com) - David Desharnais lit the lamp twice as the Montreal Canadiens scored four straight goals to come back and defeat the Carolina Hurricanes, 4-1, at PNC Arena.
Ryan White had a goal and an assist and Brian Gionta supplied Montreal's other goal. Brendan Gallagher contributed two helpers and Carey Price made 31 saves in Montreal's third straight win.
Drayson Bowman scored Carolina's lone goal and Anton Khudobin allowed three goals on 23 shots as the Hurricanes have dropped two of their last three.
Bowman opened the scoring 5:42 into the second for Carolina. Riley Nash found Bowman along the right boards and Bowman slapped a shot past a screened Price for his fourth of the season.
"When they scored the first goal, I believe this is where we started playing our game and we left the building with two big points," said Montreal head coach Michel Therrien.
Montreal tied the game with a goal from Desharnais with 2:08 left in the second. Rene Bourque received the puck from Desharnais and sent a cross-ice feed back to him. Desharnais wristed it off the give-and-go into a wide-open net.
White gave Montreal the lead with 43 seconds remaining in the second. Andrei Markov slapped a shot that hit White in front. White gathered the puck and slipped it past a diving Khudobin.
"It happened pretty quick there at the end of the second. We gave up two, unfortunately, and it kind of swung the momentum in their favor," said Bowman.
Gallagher raced up the left side into the Carolina zone and sent a saucer pass to Desharnais in the slot. Desharnais wristed the puck past Khudobin to give the Canadiens a two-goal lead, 6:15 into the final stanza.
Carolina pulled Khudobin and Gionta scored on the empty net with 2:17 remaining to account for the final score.
Max Pacioretty left the game with a lower-body injury after crashing into the goal post with 7:30 left in the first. He skated in on net from the left side and was shoved into the goal post by Carolina defenseman Brett Bellemore. The U.S. Olympian had to be helped off the ice by a trainer and did not return to the game.
