Grand opening for Cabela's is April 10

Cabela's Inc., a chain of stores that sells hunting, fishing and outdoor gear, will hold the official grand opening of its Anchorage store Thursday, April 10.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at 10:45 a.m. and doors will open for business at 11 a.m.

The 100,000-square-foot store -- the company's first in Alaska -- is located on the south side of Anchorage near the intersection of Minnesota Drive and C Street next to Target. It will feature thousands of outdoor products, museum-quality wildlife displays, a mountain replica, aquarium, indoor archery range, gun library, bargain cave, deli, fudge shop and more. About 250 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees will staff the store.

Cabela's operates 50 stores across North America with plans to open an additional 20 over the next two years.

Kenai Fjords Tours adds catamaran

This summer, residents and visitors will have the opportunity to explore Kenai Fjords National Park and view glaciers and wildlife from aboard the Callisto Voyager, a new 83-foot aluminum catamaran. The 150-passenger catamaran will be added to Kenai Fjords Tours' 11-vessel fleet in time for the 2014 season.

Designed by Teknicraft of New Zealand and constructed by All American Marine in Bellingham, Wash., the new vessel meets the latest EPA standards and is 40 percent more fuel efficient than traditional monohull boats.
