NAHL report: Kenai River and Fairbanks both win

Posted by DOYLE WOODY, on February 8, 2014

It was an Alaska sweep in the NAHL tonight -- the Kenai River Brown Bears dispatched the visiting Austin Bruins 7-1 and the league-leading Fairbanks Ice Dogs beat the visiting Wenatchee Wild 2-1 in a shootout.

Kenai River (23-18-6) received one goal and two assists from both Conor Deal of Anchorage and Zack Zulkanycz, and one goal and one helper from Christian Luiten of Anchorage.

And 16-year-old goaltender Kris Oldham of Anchorage, the 6-foot-4 masked one who has the attention of recruiters, stopped 24 shots to improve to 8-4-3 with a 2.89 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.

Up north, the Ice Dogs won the shootout 4-3 in 10 rounds, with Nick Hinz delivering the clincher. Ethan Somoza scored Fairbanks' goal in regulation.
