Streeper warms up for Fur Rondy with Stage Stop victory

Anchorage Daily NewsFebruary 9, 2014

Blayne Streeper of Fort Nelson, British Columbia, won the International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race on Saturday with a cumulative time of 18 hours, 43 minutes, 20 seconds.

He was followed by John Stewart (19:09:55) and David Turner (19:49:41). Ryan Redington finished eighth in the field of 16 with a total time of 21:19:35.

The race, which began Feb. 1, faced tough weather conditions. Friday's leg was cancelled when heavy, blowing snow made it impossible for groomers to set the trail.

Streeper, a former Fur Rondy race champion, will return to Anchorage for that race, as will his uncle, Eddy Streeper, also a former Rondy champ. The Rondy race runs Feb. 21-23.
