— Yukon Quest International Sled Dog Race officials say a dog has died on the race trail.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports (http://is.gd/PlPRT2) that race officials say a dog named Bashful on musher Dave Dalton's team died Monday. Head veterinarian Kathleen McGill says the dog will be transported to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory, for a necropsy.

Dalton is a Healy, Alaska, musher who was running in ninth place.

Alaska musher Allen Moore won his second consecutive Yukon Quest on Monday. The race website says the Two Rivers man crossed the finish line at Takhini Hot Springs near Whitehorse at 2:12 a.m. Monday, Alaska time.
