O'Harra, Tarbath ski to CIC wins; South leads team race

East's Thomas O'Harra and Service's Emma Tarbath captured Cook Inlet Conference championships Friday on the Hillside trails.

O'Harra, who recently returned from the World Junior Championships in Italy, won the freestyle race in 22 minutes, 57.5 seconds. Second place went to Service's Jake Bassett (23:04.9) and third place went to South's Seiji Takagi (23:15.3).

Tarbath's victory came in 23:08.0. Chugiak's Sarissa Lammers grabbed second place in 23:15.7 and South's Ann Darnell was a distant third (23:43.2).

South landed four boys and four girls in the top 10 to claim the early lead in team competition. Heading into Saturday's classic relay, the Wolverines hold a 50-second lead over Service in the girls competition and lead West by about 1:45 in the boys competition.
