Taveau mushes to 10-dog championships

Christian Taveau collected the Raven Electric 10-dog Championship on Sunday, holding off a strong-finishing Jennifer Sterling in the sprint race at Tozier Track.

Sterling posted the fastest time Sunday, completing the 10-mile heat in 28 minutes, 36. Taveau, the winner of Friday’s and Saturday’s heats, clocked 28:50.

Taveau’s three-total time of 1:29:47 gave him a 22-second gap over Sterling. Sterling’s fast ride on Sunday vaulted her from third place to second place in the overall standings.

In the Junior World Championships, which also wrapped up Sunday, Zada Maruskie took the crown in the six-dog class with a three-day time of 56:58. Racers made six-mile runs each day.
