Public meeting on U-Med road Tuesday night

The public will have the chance to weigh in on the road plan for the University-Medical District at an open house Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at East High.

Last week, hospital, university and transportation officials selected the most direct north-south route to connect Bragaw Street and Elmore Road. Preliminary costs put the controversial project at $19.4 million. The road will have two lanes, three roundabouts and three pedestrian bridges, Stewart Osgood, president of DOWL HKM, said in a presentation Thursday.

But he has said plans are only at about 20 percent and things could change.

The Tuesday meeting, hosted by the state Department of Transportation and Municipality of Anchorage, will start with a one-hour open house, followed by a 20-minute presentation and 25-minute question and answer session.
