Anchorage's Summerhays bags 3rd straight shutout for Notre Dame

Posted by DOYLE WOODY, on February 22, 2014

Notre Dame senior goaltender Steve Summerhays of Anchorage remained in his groove tonight with yet another shutout, his third straight.

Summerhays stopped 22 shots in a 2-0 Hockey East home win over Boston University. He bageled the Terriers on Friday with 19 saves in another 2-0 win. And last weekend he stopped 36 shots in a 3-0 win at Providence. Dating back to a 2-2 tie at Providence two Friday's ago, Summerhays has not allowed a goal in 191 minutes, 11 seconds.

He has stopped 77 shots in the last three games.

Summerhays' seven shutouts this season lead Division I, his 1.90 goals-against average ranks fifth nationally and his .929 save percentage is 13th.

Oh, and he owns 13 career shutouts in 92 career starts. He's undrafted, but surely will attract some pro interest at some level once his Irish career is over.

Speaking of goalies, Michigan Tech sophomore Pheonix Copley of North Pole stopped 37 shots tonight to backstop a 3-2 win at rival Northern Michigan.
