Dusser's runnerup showing tops UAA ski team

Marine Dusser’s second-place finish in the women’s 15-kilometer freestyle race led the UAA ski team Saturday at the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association Championships in Colorado.

The Seawolves placed sixth  in the seven-team field with 425 points, 20 behind sixth-place Montana State, which got some of its best results from Alaskans.

Dusser claimed second place with a time of 40 minutes, 30.5 seconds, trailing winner Eva Severrus of New Mexico by 37.5 seconds.

Three others posted top-10 finishes for the Seawolves. Lukas Ebner placed fifth and Etienne Richard ninth in the men’s 20-K freestyle, and Niko Harmanen finished eighth in the men’s slalom.

Meanwhile, Anchorage’s Jessica Yeaton and Kate Backstrum placed sixth and 10th in the women’s 15-K and David Norris of Fairbanks was 12th in the men’s 20-K for Montana State.

Utah took the team title with 640 points.
