An early Sunday shooting outside an East Anchorage VFW post sent one man to the hospital in critical condition, police said.

At around 2:45 a.m. Anchorage police received a report that a man had been shot at VFW Post 9978, located at 101 Oklahoma Street near the Glenn Highway in East Anchorage, said APD spokeswoman Dani Myren.

"Upon arrival, officers discovered a male adult had been struck multiple times in the arms and torso," Myren wrote.

The identity of the victim is not yet being released, police said.

Witnesses said two groups of people had been fighting outside the business , she said.

"At one point, several shots were fired by one side of the altercation, striking the victim."

The suspects fled before officers arrived. Police have no description of the vehicle they left in, Myren said.

Police don't think the groups knew each other, she said.
