This and that: UAA and Aces

Just a couple of quick notes why staying off the radar for a couple of days.

The fellas at, who have been putting out projections of the how the WCHA will finish, in their latest work peg UAA to finish seventh and UAF to finish third. Only eight of the league's 10 teams make the playoffs. You can chec out the latest projections here.

Remember, UAA is idle this week, while UAF entertains league-leading Ferris State, which is coming off a home sweep of UAA.

The Aces are scheduled to fly out of town Tuesday for a game Wednesday in Idaho and then a two-game weekend set in Utah.

In Idaho, looks like they'll run into a former Ace -- defenseman Russ Sinkewich's ECHL rights have been traded from the Toledo Walleye to the Steelheads in exchange for defenseman Tyler Elbrecht.

Also, the Las Vegas Wranglers, getting the gate at Orleans Arena after this season, have announced that starting next season they will play home games on the top of a casino. Seriously. Check it out, here. Hey, at least it's something to talk about. Las Vegas' season -- it has a six-point "lead'' on Toledo for the worst record on the circuit -- hasn't been much to talk about.

Finally, note that former Aces goaltender Mark Guggenberger, who started the season here before jumping to the Central Hockey League, recently got waived by the CHL's Allen Americans. That release came shortly after he was fined for tripping a mascot.
