An SUV caught on fire after rear-ending a school bus loaded with children in Eagle River Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Anchorage police and firefighters responded to a 911 call reporting the crash near Briggs Bridge, off of Eagle River Loop, around 2:20 p.m., said Dani Myren, police spokeswoman.

No injuries were reported, she said. The school bus was about 100 feet away from the Toyota RAV4 and did not catch on fire, Myren said.

Heidi Embley, an Anchorage School District spokeswoman, said the bus was coming from Eagle River High School at 8701 Yosemite Dr. and carrying 28 students. A second school bus was sent to complete the route.

Police requested a tow truck to remove the half-burned SUV, Myren said.
