"Counting Coastlines"

Douglas Yates of Ester has won The Blake Society of London's 2013 “Tithe Grant” Award. His photo "Counting Coastlines" was selected from 99 entries from around the world.

The Blake Society is a registered charity that honors poet William Blake with lectures, awards and other projects. For this contest, photographers were invited "to submit a picture of how William Blake’s 'Tyger' appears in the world today." The reference is to the well-known poem beginning, "Tyger, Tyger, burning bright,/In the forests of the night..."

In a press release, Yates described himself as "a photographer and writer who watches water freeze in Alaska."
