In his original budget proposal, the governor recommended “only” $10 million for Susitna dam studies due to problems with land-use agreements (ADN Jan. 7). Suddenly, the governor has decided to recommend an additional $32.7 million for the dam (ADN Feb. 20).
The Anchorage School District is expecting a shortfall next year of $23 million. Why is it that $23 million for an education funding shortfall seems insurmountable, yet the governor can come up with $32.7 million for dam studies, apparently on a whim?
