Wine of the week: Bodegas Riojanas' Puerta Vieja Crianza

AnchorageFebruary 27, 2014

Rioja! Rioja! Rah, rah, rah! Yes, I'm a fan. It's just that Spanish Riojas are so spicy and seductive. I recently tasted a wine from Bodegas Riojanas, the Puerta Vieja Crianza. Eighteen months in wood and six months in bottle make for sultry, spicy aromas and flavors. Eighty percent Tempranillo, 15 percent Mazuelo and 5 percent Graciano yield a tender mouth of sweet black fruits, black tea, spice, cedar plank, cherry and vanilla. What a delicious drink. I'd serve this with some grilled lamb chops and polenta. Costs about $15.
