Joy and Dan Johnston
Eagle River residents Joy and Dan Johnston celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Jan. 19 in Hawaii. They were married Jan. 19, 1968, in Concord, Calif.
Joy and Dan were surprised by their daughter, son and grandchildren on Joy's birthday, New Year's Eve, with an all-expenses-paid trip to Hawaii, "where they will be treated like a king and queen," their daughter, Dawn Hannasch, wrote. Also included in the trip was rental of a red Ford Mustang convertible.
The Johnstons met as students at Mount Diablo High School in Concord and were married while Dan finished his senior year. Their honeymoon was a weekend in a cabin in the Sierra Nevada. Three children soon followed: Danette, Dan Jr. and Dawn.
Dan graduated and began a career with Pacific Gas & Electric while Joy stayed home to raise the family. Weekends were spent in church and Boy Scout activities. Joy also volunteered at the children's school and was soon hired as a full-time aide. In 1995, the couple followed their son and his family to Alaska. "This is home now," they said. They are ordained in their church ministry. The couple enjoy family, friends, church, movies, fishing, camping and being "amazing" grandparents.
They have a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Jane Johnston of Wasilla; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Jerry Hannasch of Anchorage; and the late Danette Jean Johnston. They have six grandchildren: Daniel III, Michael and Jazmine Johnston of Wasilla, and Joshua, Samuel and Abigail Hannasch of Anchorage.

Kimberly and Curtis Waller
Kimberly Yolande Rufen-Blanchette and Curtis Waller were married Nov. 11 at Alyeska Resort in Girdwood.
They met while working at MTV Networks/Viacom in New York City.
Kimberly is the daughter of Daniel Victor and Cynthia Rufen-Blanchette of Anchorage. She graduated from Service High School in 1994 and attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where she majored in broadcast journalism and minored in English. She is now studying digital media at New York University. Kimberly began her broadcast career in Anchorage on 92.9 FM as "Kim Kane" after interning with KTUU.
She is an on-air talent for New York's Power 105.1 FM, a writer/producer/correspondent for NBC House Smarts TV and a freelance writer/producer for Viacom. Kimberly's work in Anchorage led to involvement with many nonprofit organizations. She is a Level 2 National Cheerleading Association-certified cheer and dance coach and led the Service High dance/stunt team to three state championships.
Curtis is the son of Rhonna Leigh and Charles Waller of New Jersey. He is a 1981 graduate of Nutley High School. A former music director at WBLS-FM and senior writer/producer for Viacom, Curtis is a 20-year music industry veteran. During his five-year tenure with WBLS, he earned a nomination for Billboard's Music Director of the Year. He is a writer and producer for CBS Radio and an independent filmmaker whose short "Coffee Shopping in Amsterdam" was screened at New York's International Independent Film Festival in 2007. A former instructor for Bernard Baruch University, Curtis is chief executive officer of Waller Worldwide Inc., an independent media contracting company.
The couple will vacation this year in Ibiza, Spain.

Kim and Erik Ressel
Kim Kreutzer and Erik Ressel were married Nov. 3 at the Presidio Chapel in San Francisco.
Kim and Erik met at Erik's ski cabin at Lake Tahoe, and he proposed two years later during a trip to California wine country. They enjoy skiing, hiking, camping, reading and cooking. They have two cats, Callie and Frankie.
Kim is the daughter of Ann and John Kreutzer of Haswell, Colo. She graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in business administration in 1998. She is product manager for Wal-Mart in Brisbane, Calif.
Erik is the son of Ina and Joe Ressel of Anchorage. He is a fourth-generation Alaskan and graduated from Dimond High School in 1992. He earned a degree in civil engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and obtained a master's degree in construction management from Stanford, Calif., in 1998. He is a project manager for Dome Construction of San Francisco.
Kim's maid of honor was her sister, Meg Kreutzer of Texas. Erik's best man was Jarrod Sowa of Juneau. The wedding was attended by friends and relatives from different states; Erik's first cousin, Dr. Wolfram Ressel, and his family came from Munich, Germany.
The couple honeymooned in South Africa. They plan to live in Alaska or Colorado.

Garnet and Jerry Morey
Garnet E. Mace and Jerry J. Morey were married Dec. 28 on the deck of the log home they built.
Garnet and Jerry met in 1987 on Kodiak Island when both were teenagers. They lost touch for 11 years. Then, after six months of phone calls, Jerry flew to Anchorage on Dec. 27, 2002, to see Garnet. He proposed Sept. 19, 2003, on the Homer Spit. The wedding date is the anniversary of their meeting again, and both their parents had December weddings.
Garnet is the daughter of Gary and Shirley Mace of Kasilof.
Jerry is the son of Mike and Kathy Morey of Crawford, Colo., formerly of Kodiak Island. He has been a commercial fisherman and crabber since the mid-1980s.
The outdoor wedding was officiated by Roni Morey, who recited a Native American blessing. They were surrounded by glistening snow and poinsettia decorations. Skipping the wedding-cake tradition, they had a tiered, heart-shaped pile of iced Ding Dongs. They will choose an Alaska site for a romantic getaway.

Kerrie and Erik Fredeen
Kerrie Reynolds and Erik Fredeen were married Jan. 5 at Joy Lutheran Church in Eagle River.
Kerrie is the daughter of Jon Reynolds of Talkeetna and the late Kathy Reynolds. She graduated from the Mat-Su Correspondence School in 1993 and from the University of Alaska with a master's degree in teaching in 2006. She is a high school social studies teacher with the Anchorage School District. Kerrie enjoys cooking, music, movies, reading and traveling.
Erik is the son of Audrey and Wayne Fredeen of Eagle River. He graduated from Chugiak High School in 1989 and from Purdue University with a mechanical engineering degree in 1993. He is a project manager with Meridian Management Inc. in Anchorage. Erik enjoys the arts, fly fishing and hiking.
A private ceremony was attended by both families and was officiated by the Rev. David Sutton of Talkeetna. Jennifer Newman was maid of honor, and the bridegroom's brother, Craig Fredeen, was best man. Guests from out of town included the bridegroom's sister, Theresa Overton, of Pleasanton, Calif., and the bride's brother, Kirk Reynolds, and his family from Nome.
The ceremony was followed by dinner with family and friends at Sullivan's Steakhouse. The couple enjoyed a weekend in Girdwood and will honeymoon later.

Lisa and Anthony Frye
Lisa Kruse and Anthony Frye were married Dec. 16 at Settlers Bay Lodge.
Lisa is the daughter of Don Kruse of Omak, Wash., and Darlene Kruse of Spokane, Wash. She graduated from Western Washington University. Lisa came to Alaska with Holland America in 1996 and is now manager of sales and marketing for CIRI Alaska Tourism, promoting lodges and day cruises. She enjoys golfing, skiing, hiking and spending time with friends and family.
Tony, born and raised in Anchorage, is the son of Rusty and Candy Frye of Anchorage. He is a carpenter and general contractor and has enhanced many homes and businesses in Anchorage and the Valley. He enjoys golf, skiing, cooking and spending time with his family and friends.
The ceremony took place under a canopy of white lights as Mark Prator united the couple in marriage. "The wedding day was blessed by an incredible sunset over the Knik River and Chugach Mountains," the couple wrote. The wedding party included matron of honor Kathy Benedetti and bridesmaid Kyla Nelson. Groomsmen were Andy Frye and Richard Frye. The bridegroom's niece, Alyssum Rasher, was flower girl. The bridegroom's sons, Tony and Jacob, were ring bearers. Guests from out of town included the bride's parents, siblings, aunt and uncle and cousin, all from Washington state.
The wedding party traveled by limousine to the wedding and reception. Tony and Lisa started their honeymoon with a ski weekend in Girdwood. They will continue their honeymoon with a trip to Southern California for golfing and wine country tours.

LeAnna and Beau Davis
LeAnna Eun Hei Jagger and Beau Brian Davis were married Jan. 13 at Lamb of God Lutheran Church in Wasilla.
LeAnna and Beau, both figure skaters, met at a Valley ice arena in 1998. In November 2005, they started to pairs-skate together, and sparks flew. Within two years of getting close, they were engaged.
LeAnna is the daughter of Glenn and Esther Jagger of Wasilla. She attends Mat-Su College, where she is pursuing a degree in mathematics. LeAnna works at Brett Ice Arena, teaching group ice skating lessons.
Beau is the son of Lloyde and Darla Gentry of Spokane, Wash. He is pursuing a journeyman's license in pipefitting at North Country Stoves of Wasilla, Eagle River and Anchorage. Besides skating, Beau loves martial arts and video games. Both perform as guest pairs skaters around Alaska.
The ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Norm Wagner of Lamb of God Lutheran Church. McKenna France was matron of honor, and Joe Lott was best man. Lane Hodson was flower girl, and Remington Burghart was ring bearer. Rory Burghart sang "At Last."

Danielle and David Flaherty
Danielle Erin Helms and David Patrick Flaherty were married Dec. 17 at the Alaska Dog Mushers Hall in Fairbanks. The Rev. Phil Kuehnert Zion Lutheran Church in Fairbanks officiated.
Danielle is the daughter of Wayne and Bobbi Helms of Anchorage. She is a 2001 graduate of Service High School. Danielle is an advertising representative at the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner.
David is the son of Pat and Linda Flaherty of Fairbanks. He is a 1999 graduate of West Valley High School in Fairbanks. He works in road construction.
The bride was attended by Liz Johnson and Wendie MacNaughton, both of Fairbanks. The bridegroom was attended by Coleman Chalup of Anchorage and Chris Shier of Fairbanks. Special guests included the bride's grandmothers, Lavera Helms of Linn, Kan., and Milly McGregor of Wichita, Kan. Three of the bride's aunts from Kansas also attended, as well as one of the bridegroom's aunts from Minnesota and the Flahertys close friend from Oregon.
Afterward, friends and family feasted on Big Daddy's Barbecue and enjoyed the music of Fairbanks band Slippin' Mickeys, which was playing on St. Patrick's Day when David proposed. During the celebration, the temperature dropped to 30 below zero "and the northern lights came out and danced, something the couple hoped their many friends and family members who came from out of state would get to experience," they wrote.
The couple will honeymoon in the Caribbean. They will live in Fairbanks.

Letticia Kersten and Michael Cragen
Letticia Kersten and Michael Cragen, both of Anchorage, will marry June 21 at the Cragen family cabin at Nancy Lake.
Letticia is the daughter of Allen and Shirley Storkson of New Rockford, N.D. She graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 1997 with a bachelor's degree in education and received a master's degree from the University of Alaska Anchorage in 2003. She teaches sixth grade at Begich Middle School. Letticia has a son, Dylan. They like camping, hiking, fishing and playing saxophone together.
Mike is the son of Gil and Sandy Cragen of Anchorage. He graduated from East High School in 1994 and earned a bachelor's degree in education in Colorado. Mike teaches a fifth- and sixth-grade combination in the Spanish Immersion Program at Government Hill Elementary School. He enjoys camping, hiking, fishing and flying his Aeronca Champ airplane.
The couple met through a mutual friend at an Alaska Aces game in March 2005. In December 2007, Mike proposed to Letticia at Nancy Lake.

Treena McCormick and Jessie Ivie
Treena McCormick and Jesse Ivie, both of Anchorage, will marry May 3 at Alaska Native Lutheran Church.
Treena is the daughter of Agnes Antonson of Seattle and the late Stanley McCormick. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 2003. She is a teacher assistant with Akeela Inc. Treena enjoys fishing, beading and quilting.
Jesse is the son of Shirley and Kevin Ivie of Anchorage. He graduated from East High School in 2001 and is pursuing a human services degree at the University of Alaska Anchorage. He works in maintenance and is a driver for Alaska Native Heritage Center. He loves fishing, playing video games, camping and sports.
The couple met while working at Alaska Native Heritage Center in summer 2003. Three years later, Jesse took her to Romano's restaurant and proposed on bended knee. They shared dessert to celebrate.

Kristin Bauer and Christopher Moulton Kristin Rose Bauer of Klamath Falls, Ore., and Christopher James Moulton of Eagle River will marry Aug. 8 in Klamath Falls.
Kristin is the daughter of Cynthia and Jim Faries. Born and raised in Keno, Ore., she graduated from Henley High School in 1999 and Oregon Institute of Technology in 2006. Kristin is a sonographer at Providence Alaska Medical Center. She enjoys mountain biking, hiking, fishing, camping, running, weight lifting, snowboarding and quilting.
Chris is the son of Myrna and Tony Moulton. Born in Fairbanks and raised in Eagle River, he graduated from Chugiak High School in 1997 and from the University of Anchorage Alaska in 2006. Chris is an air traffic controller with the federal government. He enjoys the outdoors, playing poker and video games, and hanging out with his friends.
The couple met at Alyeska Resort in 2006. Chris proposed on the first anniversary of their first date there.

Chelsea Smith and Jeffrey Mergy
Chelsea M. Smith and Jeffrey T. Mergy plan to marry in the fall.
Chelsea is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Smith of Denver. She is a consultant with the Chicago-based management consulting firm eLoyalty Corp. She graduated from Service High School in 1999 and from Purdue University in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in sales management.
Jeff is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Mergy of Hamilton, Ohio. He graduated from Badin High School in Hamilton in 1998 and from the University of Cincinnati in 2003 with a bachelor's degree in materials engineering. Jeff is a research and design engineer with PING Golf Co. He is pursuing a master's in business administration at Arizona State University and plans to graduate this year.
