Back from Kosovo
Alaska Army National Guard soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 207th Aviation Regiment, were reunited with friends and family at the Alaska National Guard armory at Camp Denali on Fort Richardson on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, after a year-long deployment where they supported peacekeeping and peace enforcement missions in Kosovo.
Honoring the Veterans
Lt. Col. Marc Hoffmeister, who was injured by a roadside bomb in Iraq in 2007, gave the keynote address during a Veterans and Remembrance Day ceremony in the Alaska National Guard armory at Fort Richardson on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2009. Canadian Forces from Elmendorf AFB held a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery.

Flight Back to Anchorage
Retired doctor Bill Compton recently completed his seventh round-trip flight to the Hawaiian islands when he returned to Merrill Field in Anchorage on Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009. Compton was injured in a motorcycle accident eight years ago and he thought that was the end of his flying career. He now uses hand controls to operate the rudder and brakes of his 1966 Beechcraft Bonanza V35TC.
