Fuel begins flowing from tanker to Nome
The transfer of 1.3 million gallons of fuel from a Russian tanker to fuel storage tanks in Nome is going smoothly, with one possible problem avoided. Jason Evans, board chairman of Sitnasuak Native Corp., says one potentially damaged section of hose had to be switched out early this morning.

Snow-weary Cordova expects more shovels by weekend
When you're trying to clear out 15 feet of snow, a regular shovel isn't going to cut it. Cordova officials have arranged with a Canadian company for an order of large, scoop-type shovels capable of moving a cubic foot of snow at a time.
