Orlando Sentinel: An Alaska couple involved in an infamous NASA love triangle have announced they're getting married. Former space shuttle astronaut and West High graduate William Oefelein and former Air Force officer Colleen Shipman plan a summer 2010 wedding in Shipman's hometown near Pittsburgh. Here's an excerpt from their announcement, filed Thursday on the Anchorage Daily News engagements web page: "On June 20, the couple embarked on a 110-mile canoe trip on Beaver Creek in Interior Alaska. That night, Billy O. retrieved a ring he had hidden in the fishing box and proposed to his love on bended knee."
Another former astronaut, Lisa Nowak, drove a thousand miles from Houston, Texas, to Orlando, Fla., in February 2007 and allegedly attacked Shipman with pepper spray in the Orlando airport parking lot. Nowak is charged with attempted kidnapping and burglary with assault, which is punishable of up to life in prison. She also faces a misdemeanor battery charge. A trial is set in Florida for Dec. 7. Oefelein and Shipman are also business partners.
