Fairbanks woman competes on Philippines 'Survivor'

Amanda Coolley Van Cooll, a 25-year-old Fairbanks construction worker originally from the Philippines island of Mindoro, is a contestant in Season 2 of the Filipino franchise of the "Survivor" reality show. Van Cooll says in her show bio that she switched to physical labor after being bored in a bank job. "Amanda grew up a probinsyana [country girl] and is accustomed to island life. She is confident that her experiences prepared her enough for the game," her bio says. But, she adds, "I really had to gain some weight."
