Building the 'Arctic dream home'

Link: The Arctic Sounder: Students and teachers at Barrow's Ilisagvik College are building an energy-efficient "Arctic dream home." Guided by UAF's Cold Climate Housing Research Center and with funding from the Tagiugmiullu Nunamiullu Housing Authority, students set out to build 1,000-square-foot house in Anaktuvuk Pass that would cost no more than $150,000 and would save the occupant a bundle of cash on energy -- perhaps using only a tenth the amount of heating oil that a traditional home would. See a slide show of the project at Flickr.com.
