Juneau city manager returns after 6-month leave

JUNEAU -- Juneau's city manager is back on the job after a leave of six months.

Rod Swope cited burnout when he announced last year that he would step down. As an alternative to a resignation, the city negotiated the leave, which began May 1.

During Swope's absence, deputy City Manager Kim Kiefer filled in as manager.

Swope, who returned Monday, has held the position since 2003. He has agreed to work two more years if the city Assembly requests it.His annual salary is $176,000.
