ALASKA CITY FOLK ARTS YOUTH CAMP

ALASKA DANCE THEATRE

Summer Session

  • Ages: Pre-school to adult
  • Goals and activities: This is a six-week dance workshop offering a full curriculum of classes including ballet, creative dance, modern jazz and pre-school classes.

  • How much: Based on a six-week session, one class per week is $78; two classes are $132; three classes are $180; and four classes are $222. There is also a $20 registration fee.

Dance Lab

  • Ages: 8-18
  • Goals and activities: One week of intensive dance training for three levels: Level 1 is for ages 8-12 with two to four years formal training; Level 2 is for ages 11-16 with three to seven years formal training; Level 3 is for ages 14-18 with five to 10 years formal training. Placement is based on years of formal training, and assessments are done the first day of class for placement.

ALASKA MIDNIGHT SUN SONGWRITERS CAMP

A.C.T. THEATRE SCHOOL CAMP

FIBER FUN AND SURFACE DESIGN

GIRDWOOD FINE ARTS CAMP

  • Goals and activities: Younger students, ages 5-8, spend two hours a day drawing and exploring a survey of art media that includes puppetry, stained glass, T-shirt design, printmaking, painting, multimedia assemblage and murals. Older kids, ages 9-18, spend four hours drawing, working with clay, printmaking, watercolor, stained glass and cloisenne (enamel on copper). All students develop a portfolio, and their work will be displayed at a public showing Aug. 11.

SUMMER MUSIC CONSERVATORY

  • Goals and activities: Several musical learning opportunities include the Conservatory, which offers music instruction in large and small ensembles; the Small Jazz Combo Class for conservatory students who want to specialize in jazz performance; and the Advanced String Program, offered to advanced string players enrolled in the Conservatory and currently studying privately. Faculty includes local artists and teachers combined with the Festival's guest artists. The Mentor Program offers advanced students (by audition only) a chance to attend orchestral rehearsals and receive private lessons with Festival guest artists. Each student registered for the full Conservatory receives one ticket to each of the professional performances presented by AFM in June.

Summer Theatre Conservatory

  • Goals and activities: The Theatre Conservatory offers an exciting opportunity for students to work directly with professionals as part of a working theater company. This rigorous program focuses on the disciplines and skills required to work in the theater. Students receive specialized instruction in the performing arts (acting, movement, voice, pantomime, dance, stage combat, circus skills and Shakespeare appreciation) from a staff of professionals from around the globe, followed by afternoon rehearsals and workshops culminating in a public performance.

Production Workshop

UAF SUMMER FINE ARTS CAMP

  • Goals and activities: The camp, now in its 37th year, offers programs in creative writing, dance, visual art, music and theater. Celebrate the arts with more than 450 students and 100 guest/artist faculty from throughout the United States. Students participate in approximately 40 concerts, readings, art shows and theatrical productions. Supervised dormitory housing is available for out-of-town students. The UAF Summer Fine Arts Camp is becoming nationally recognized as an outstanding musical and cultural experience for talented young artists.
