Summer Music Activities for Kids

  • Goals and activities: This day camp offers campers the opportunity to learn musical concepts and Biblical truths through fun-filled activities and games. Participate in a variety of musical and drama activities. Kids will present a full-length musical June 22.

Ocean Odyssey Vacation Bible School

  • Ages: Age 4 through grade 6
  • Goals and activities: This ocean-themed Bible school, titled ‘‘Diving into the Depths of God's Faithfulness,'' offers a daily worship rally in the ‘‘worship rally submarine,'' Bible stories and ocean crafts. Organizers invite kids to ‘‘experience extraordinary Ocean Odyssey music and delicious snacks, and dive into creative recreation.''

BASKETBALL CAMP/CLINIC

DEVELOPMENTALLY DISABLED CAMP

  • Goals and activities: An outdoor camp experience for mentally or physically impaired children. Campers live in dorms or cabins with a counselor and an assistant. Every camper has the opportunity to enjoy horseback riding, waterfront activities, a hay ride and other exciting outdoor fun within the limits of their disability.

  • Goals and activities: Holyword Productions and World Harvest Church invite area kids to star in Bible adventures. This year, the church is using the Bible as a script for a film about God's story. Organizers wrote: ‘‘On location at Holyword Studios, kids won't find any reminders of school work.'' Emphasis is on fun, music and teamwork.

HORSE CAMPS

  • Goals and activities: These certification camps are for campers who have some skills in horseback riding. Campers work closely with the horses, learning proper riding techniques and care and cleaning of horses. At week's end, campers are tested on their knowledge and earn a certificate from the Camp Horsemanship Association. Campers live in an old West ghost town, sleep in Conestoga wagons and hike to the main camp for showers. When not working with the horses, choose from riflery, archery, swimming and handcrafts.

ST. JOHN SUMMER CAMP

  • Sponsor: St. John Orthodox Cathedral, Eagle River

  • Goals and activities: This fun camp is intended primarily for teens of the Orthodox Christian faith, but others are welcome. In addition to traditional camping activities such as horseback riding, swimming and canoeing, campers can look forward to a visit from Father Joseph Purpura of Boston. He will teach about Orthodox beliefs and how they are different from other faiths.

Alpine Camp

  • Goals and activities: During the day, campers may go on nature hikes, swim, kayak, paddleboat, learn how to handle a rifle or bow and arrow, play games or enjoy a cookout. At night, campers sing, tell stories and act out skits around the campfire.

Teepee Camp

  • Goals and activities: Campers and their counselors sleep and eat in Indian-style teepees among the trees. Campers choose skill classes including archery, riflery and crafts. At night, campers sing, tell stories and act out skits around the campfire.

Ranch Camp

  • Goals and activities: Emphasis is training in safe horsemanship. Campers do an overnight pack trip during the week. Bunk houses and a "hotel" dining room line "Main Street," and nearby are two riding arenas and the barn. Certified instructors will teach beginning through advanced riding classes.
  • Ages: Entering grades 7-12

WAGON TRAIN CAMPS

  • Ages: Entering grades 2-12
  • Goals and activities: Sleep in a Conestoga wagon, participate in riflery, archery, canoeing, swimming and learn to ride horses. Campers live in an old west ghost town, eat and have Bible studies in the Connestoga Hotel, and hike to main camp for showers. Trail rides and arena work keep the horse lovers happy.
