FULL FORCE SOCCER ACADEMY

  • Sponsor: Anchorage Indoor Soccer Center

  • Goals and activities: The goal of the Full Force Soccer Academy is to develop individual skills without involvement of strategy instruction; the various aspects of team and game strategy are left to respective coaches. Proper skill development is vital to game potential and is an area often overlooked because of limited time a coach has with his or her team. Sessions use a variable number of skill-blending drills in conjunction with small-sided games to fully assess each child's skill needs. Each session consists of approximately three hours of select drills, three five-minute hydro breaks when needed, and 45 minutes to apply new skills in a small-sided game. Sessions are for individuals, as well as teams who wish to participate together.

SEAWOLVES HOCKEY CAMP

STREET SMART IN-LINE SKATE CAMP

YOUNG GUNS SUMMER HOCKEY CAMP

  • Sponsor: Anchorage Aces' Steve MacSwain and Dean Larson

  • Goals and activities: The ''Young Guns'' hockey clinic, conducted by Anchorage Aces' Steve MacSwain and Dean Larson, is open to all ages and skill levels. The half-day camp offers three-week sessions and a weekly option to fit the family summer schedule. Guest instructors include NHL and professional hockey players throughout the summer.
  • The Atom team (ages 3-6) learns fundamentals, practices skills and drills and begins to develop the ''team attitude'' and fair play essentials. The Mites (ages 7-8) concentrate on skate, stick and puck handling. Off-ice ''dry land training and chalk-talk'' further enhances skills. Squirts (ages 9-10) focus on on-ice position, passing and shooting, setting up plays and more. Video instruction and discussion of game rules are planned, too.
  • The Peewees (ages 11-12) are introduced to body checking, power strides, passing, positioning and strategic game plays. Dry land weight training includes agility exercises and strength conditioning. The Bantams (ages 13-15) learn the on-ice mental game of hockey. Successful ''corner work'' is emphasized. Weight training, nutrition, grades and testing, strength and conditioning are off-ice topics. Midgets (ages 15-17) focus on mental preparation and physical strength to master the game. Mentors MacSwain and Larson guide the athletes to the next level of play including NCAA requirements, recruitment techniques and challenges.
  • Evening skates for high school, junior and collegiate players are scheduled. The program is registered and insured by USA Hockey.
